Behind the Scenes
Real-time ray tracing rendering: trust in D5's preview
"D5 was suggested by a friend who had been using it for a few months. We tried it in December of 2021, and realised that its preview quality and even the default output were much better than the realtime rendering software that we were using.
What we love about D5 the most is that it has realtime ray tracing in the viewport itself. Another quality of D5 that we found brilliant was how easily it handled huge site plans with a number of complex buildings with realtime ray tracing enabled, which became the decisive factor for us to choose D5 Render over Lumion."
Efficiency: close the projects as soon as possible
"With D5, it's much easier for the clients to evaluate nuances of the project in a meeting even on screen share, which we did a lot. Thanks to D5's preview that is near to the final rendering, clients can review the project from the D5 viewport for quicker decisions in terms of material finalization and preferred lighting.
We then make the changes in real time with respect to lighting, colours or even architectural modifications which would have taken more time if they marked the comments on a rendered image as per the conventional method used in today's market.
We even set scenes for the walkthrough so that clients can make adjustments where they want the camera to be or where they want to start/end the scene. In this way, clients are given more freedom and we are rid of rounds of communication and decision-making."
Assets: make the space more lively and playful
"D5 Asset Library was huge enough for us with a diversity of models to choose from, and they were also super detailed with materials, which saves a lot of time. I can fully trust D5 and just drag and drop whatever I need."
For all these renderings, we just imported the building models into D5, so everything besides that was added in D5 Render.
The balcony greens are all from 'Vine, Shrubs and broadleaf trees' in Nature library and the interiors are Interior Parallax assets which are stretched to fit the windows, creating a sense of variation in the facade.
Teamwork: handle large-scale projects with ease
"We use SketchUp for modelling, which is used in most architectural firms. Architects on the team hand over modeling to me, and I take it from there to work on further detailing and the rendering aspect of the project.
We had to work on an institutional project 450 acres large and produce a walkthrough. The layer system in D5 enabled us to manage such large-scale projects with ease and realtime rendering shortened the time of decision making. It is a life-saver as we had to finish the whole project in only two months."
